Which Is Cheaper, SimplePractice or TherapyNotes?

For one clinician, SimplePractice is cheaper at the entry level: Starter is $49 a month against $69 for TherapyNotes Solo. Add note drafting and the gap narrows but stays: Starter plus the $35 Note Taker comes to $84 a month, while Solo plus the $40 TherapyFuel add-on comes to $109.

For a group the order flips. Three clinicians on SimplePractice Plus cost $99 plus two practitioners at $74, or $247 a month. Three on TherapyNotes Group cost $79 plus two at $50, or $179, and TherapyNotes does not charge for non-clinical staff. These are standard list prices; SimplePractice also showed a 50% discount for the first three months to accounts that start paying within 7 days.

How Do Note Taker and TherapyFuel Compare?

Both EHRs sell note drafting as an add-on rather than in the base plan. SimplePractice Note Taker is $35 a month after 30 free days and drafts progress notes at the end of a telehealth or in-person session from a recording or dictation. It is also bundled into Care Aide ($59 for the account owner), which adds Treatment Planner (in beta), Client Summaries recaps and Session Sidekick live support during telehealth sessions.

TherapyNotes TherapyFuel is $40 a month per clinician. Its feature page says it drafts progress notes from TherapyFuel Scribe or from a session summary, generates draft treatment plan goals, objectives and interventions, and includes dictation built for clinical terms.

Which Is Better for Group Practices?

TherapyNotes is the lower-cost route for most groups: $50 per added clinician, free non-clinical staff, and an Enterprise tier for 20 or more users with a designated account manager. Every plan includes unlimited clients, appointments and notes, a client portal and basic telehealth.

SimplePractice puts group appointments, group telehealth and a premium support phone line on its Plus plan, and invites practices with 6 or more practitioners to ask for custom pricing. If you run group sessions over telehealth, check that feature first.

What Extra Fees Should You Expect?

TherapyNotes lists usage fees on its pricing page: 14 cents per electronic claim, ERA or eligibility request, 14 cents per text or call reminder (email reminders are free), and 3.1% plus 30 cents per card payment. MIPS reporting is $359 a year per clinician.

SimplePractice lists its add-ons by month: ePrescribe at $49 plus an $89 setup fee, and an Insurance Navigator billing service marked as coming soon at $1.79 per claim. Its pricing FAQ also points to an annual AMA fee for CPT code access, so read the FAQ before you compare totals.

Where Does WellNotes Fit?

WellNotes is not an EHR and does not replace either one. If you keep SimplePractice or TherapyNotes for scheduling, billing and records but would rather not pay for Note Taker or TherapyFuel, WellNotes drafts the note from your typed or dictated summary for $27 or $38 a month, and you paste it into the chart yourself.
